Are there individual Canadian helping out to solve poverty?

Paul Martin recently donated $2.5 million of his own money to help alleviate aboriginal poverty. There certainly are individual Canadians working to reduce poverty with large-scale donations like Mr. Martin's or through small grassroots actions - Though most people do work through an established organization to help solve poverty.
